Introduction to Spanish Course Beginners

With Yolanda Sumner

During the first term, you will learn how to greet people and how to introduce yourself, talk about your professions and preferences as well as to talk about your holidays.

In each class you will get to communicate in Spanish and become informed  by practising conversations, as well as engaging in role play. You will have the chance to work in groups and individually.

The main aim of this course is to start communicating in Spanish, either orally or in writing, in a dynamic and interactive environment.

There will be different ways of approaching all the language skills i.e. listening, speaking, reading and writing.

For example, if you like Spanish food, culture and their “fiestas” we will find creative and interactive ways to bring the outside world into the Spanish classroom.

In eight weeks you will learn how to:

Week 1: Greet people and introduce yourself. Use of verbs SER y ESTAR

Week 2-4: Understand information about other people, to express your likes and dislikes ( Verb “Gustar”) as well as to talk about daily actions or routines using the Past, Present and Future Tenses .

Use of:
* masculine and feminine (gender)
* name of countries and natives
* use of the article (el, la, las, los, le)
* professions
* singular and plural
* colours
* indefinite articles (una, uno, unos y unas)
* prepositions
* prepositions of place (sobre, encima, debajo, etc).

Week 5-6: Obtain relevant information by using interrogative words (Que, donde, quien, cuando, cuanto , porque), as well as how to buy something, prices and payment methods, to ask for things in public places and seek directions.

Week 7-8: Order something at a restaurant, payments and revision of the whole term.

During the term, you will gain confidence as you improve your language skills and knowledge.

Learning Spanish can be really engaging, enjoyable and fun!

About the Tutor

My name is Yolanda Huertas Carmona. I am from Granada in the south of Spain. I graduated to be a teacher at the University of Granada and after finishing my degree in 1989 I came to England as an Au Pair as I wanted to learn English. Initially I lived in Kent for a few years and then moved to Norwich in 2000. At present I work in Children’s Services Department at Norfolk County Council and in my spare time I teach Spanish at home on Monday evening. I enjoy teaching my language and I admire people who make the effort to learn a second language.
I also like reading, walking, swimming and socialising.  I hope you will enjoy learning Spanish in the same way as I like teaching it.
