Make Do & Mend

Ever wanted to learn to sew? From mending buttons or making alterations? Then this course is for you
On this course you will learn the basics of clothing alterations, repairs and how to  up-cycle an existing garment.  You will learn how to:
* sew on buttons and other fastenings
* unpick garment seams for alterations and up-cycling
* patch and make simple repairs
* applique
* hem garments
* alter garments to fit your shape so that you want wear them again
* create something new from a pre-loved garment
* how to re-use your favourite cloth from a garment you no longer want to wear (it could become a purse, cushion, or be used a s part of a patchwork quilt to name just a few ideas)
You will need to bring along:
* ideally a sewing machine as there will be a mixture of hand and machine sewing on this course
* one or two items of clothing you’d like to alter
* scissors
* pins
* tape measure
* thread
About the tutor
Lisa Smith-Clare is a self-taught dressmaker, with over thirty years experience. She studied Textile design initially before an English degree and then a career in Further Education teaching. Sewing is Lisa’s passion, she has always been a highly creative person and wears the vintage inspired clothes she has made everyday. She has a creative business Bobo Bun, where she sells vintage inspired accessories and takes on clothing commissions. Through her blog and instagram page the opportunity to make garments and review them for fabric companies came about. Lisa also teaches dressmaking at The Makeplace in Norwich.
