This Saturday workshop is all about loosening up at the end of the week and having fun with some creative exercises with the aim to creating a new short story every week.

Across the eight weeks we will look at ways of writing short stories – exploring the narrative structures of the form and ways to sharpen our writing.

The aim is to find ways to explore the way you see the world, the little observations we make in others and our own behaviours and capture it in words before it jumps over the fence and escapes.

We’ll play lots of writing games and look at short examples of published work to ask how writers achieve certain effects.

This course will avoid work-shopping though there will be chances to share work with the group as you see fit (and comfortable).

Ideal for beginners or more seasoned writers who just want to have some fun with their writing.

About the Tutor:

My writing life straddles both creative writing and publishing. I graduated from the UEA MA in creative writing in 2002 and I have published short stories and poems across a range of journals and anthologies, most recently Butcher’s Dog, Being Dad and Under the Radar. I am a course leader for a BA Hons in English Literature at University Centre Peterborough in partnership with Anglia Ruskin. I am also the managing director of Gatehouse Press, an award winning publisher of fiction and poetry and home to Lighthouse Literary Journal.
