The course will explore writing fiction for children aged 5-12. Perfect for those getting started in writing fiction for children.

This will be an enjoyable, interactive course consisting of creative writing exercises, reading texts and group discussion. The aim is to inspire ideas, give insight and encourage you to write and try new techniques in a relaxed, supportive environment. Throughout the course we will start new pieces of writing and discuss these in a friendly, constructive group. Towards the end of the course, you can select a piece which you would like to develop for the final session.

We will experiment with techniques which spark your imagination to start a story, explore character creation and development, examine texts and try our hands at different forms of writing for children as well as learn about children’s storytelling as an interactive art form.

For me, writing fiction for children is a wonderful way to unlock the imagination and engage with young people through the written word. I very much look forward to exploring this with you in class.
