‘THE IDIOT’S GUIDE TO MEDIEVAL CHURCHES!’

It’s something of an English Pastime, pottering about in old churches. Often though it’s like watching a French Historical film with the no subtitles… sex scenes are sumptuous, battle scenes are spectacular, but most of it goes straight over your head… unless you’re watching with a mate who speaks the lingo – then it becomes so much more memorable!
This course will be like having your own interpreter to help you understand what’s being said when the voices in the stones of a medieval church start speaking to you.
It’ll be packed with amazing facts – “Bet you didn’t know that the phrase ‘the weakest goes to the wall’ comes from medieval churches and means just the opposite of what you think it means!”
It’ll teach you lots of new words to impress and amaze your family and friends – “Golly gosh! Look everybody, unless I’m being a complete ass that’s a C13th hagioscope inserted into a C12th piscina!”
And it’ll give you the confidence to laugh scornfully whenever you read a guidebook that gets things completely wrong… “Ha! No church in England has ever had a ‘leper squint’… everybody knows lepers weren’t allowed anywhere near the Parish church!”
It’ll also include a couple of ‘field trips’ to get you out and about so you can practice your new found conversational skills with some of the churches themselves!
