The Drums for beginners course is just that and is for anyone who has always wanted to play the drums but has yet to try. No previous experience is required but a passion for hitting things with sticks is!

The course will comprise an introduction to the drum kit, the various components and its wider role in music. We’ll cover a number of areas such as:
Grip, posture and pedal control
The basics of theory and technique
Co-ordination and limb-independence
Basic (8th Note) drum beats and grooves
The weekly classes will be held in a friendly, relaxed and informative environment where everyone will be encouraged to join in and contribute. Music is a sociable thing to do so it will, hopefully, be just that!

By the end of the course you should be able to set up the drum kit, play basic rudiments, keep a steady drum beat whilst adding some improvised fills and have a greater understanding of the drums as a whole within a musical context.

You don’t need to buy anything in advance as I will provide equipment.

About the tutor
I grew up listening to an eclectic mix of music and watching archive footage of Old Grey Whistle Test performances. From these early experiences I was inspired to play the drums shortly after. Throughout my career so far I have played in a variety of genres such as rock, funk and samba where I played percussion with the London based Paraiso School of Samba. I have a number of years experience playing live across the UK and have been fortunate enough to have played at notable venues including the iconic 100 Club in London and Great Escape Festival in Brighton.
